


Mosquitoes
- Aedes Mosquito, Aedes aegypti (Indoor biters) /Aedes albopictus (Outdoor biters)
- Adult about 4–7mm in length
- Presence of black and white stripes on abdomen and legs, a lyre marking on its thorax
- Bites during the day, prefer dark colors
- Can fly for a distance about 50-100 meter
- Breed in ground pool, tree holes and man-made containers, inside and outside houses, prefer clear water
- Life cycle – 6-8 days
- Resting position – Parallel to the surface
- Culex Mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus
- Adult about 4–10 mm in length
- Pale and light brown or yellowish in colour.
- Bites at night, rest indoor before and after blood meal, prefer dark colours
- Long distance fliers
- Breed in ditches, water pool, blocked and stagnant drains, septic tanks and rice field, prefer polluted water.
- Life cycle – 10-12 days
- Resting position – Parallel to the surface
- Anopheles mosquitoes, Anopheles epiroticus/Anopheles sinensis
- Adult about 3 – 4.5mm in length
- Light brown mosquitoes, with pale and dark scales on their legs, proboscises and wings.
- Nocturnal: mate, feed and oviposit at night, rest indoor or outdoor depending on species
- Flight distance vary among species
- Prefer clean and unpolluted water, breed in temporary or permanent water bodies such as fresh or brackish water.
- Life cycle – 16-18 days
- Resting position – At an angle of about 45 degrees to the surface.
